
Occupational Therapy Home Assessments
A home assessment involves an Occupational Therapist (OT) visiting their client's home and assessing the indoor and outdoor environment. During this assessment, the OT will take note of any potential hazards, as well as the accessibility of the home.

What Is A Home Assessment?

An Occupational Therapy home visit that involves meaningful discussion, walking through each area of your home and documentation of information by working through a formal Occupational Therapy Assessment.
Who Can Benefit From An OT Assessment?

What Does The Assessment Include?

A meet and greet and walk through of a client's home.

Learning about the client’s daily routine, including cooking, showering, toileting, chores and hobbies.

Discussion about all occupations a client completes within their home and those that are of concern.

Identifying potential safety hazards a client is facing within their home.

Suggesting changes to layout to improve mobility (e.g. removal of furniture or decluttering).

Recommending suitable mobility aids such as handrails.

Reviewing use of furniture and suggesting alternatives that may boost mobility.

Suggesting major home modifications such as ramps, widening doorways, remodeling the bathroom or kitchen or installing lifts.

How Long Does The Assessment Take?

1 - 2 hours for the home visit & 2-3 hours for the report.
